Early life and backgroundSalil Milind Jamdar was born on 15 April in Nagpur, India, and grew up with roots in Thane, Maharashtra. He completed a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from KJ Somaiya College in Mumbai. As a student he performed strongly academically and prepared for the IIT‑JEE, though he ultimately pursued engineering at KJ Somaiya when admission to his preferred institute did not materialize.
Career
After graduation Salil briefly worked at Tata Consultancy Services in Mumbai, but left the job after six months to pursue filmmaking and acting. He trained at Whistling Woods International, where he developed his performance skills and studied aspects of screen acting and production. Observing established performers during this period influenced his approach to mimicry and character work.
Salil began publishing web content in 2014 with the web series Shudh Desi Endings. The producers later invited him to create a dedicated YouTube channel for parodies and spoofs, and in 2015 he launched Shudh Desi Gaane. He built a reputation for producing humorous takes on Bollywood songs, and later expanded to English music spoofs, including a parody of Bruno Mars’s "Uptown Funk," which attracted significant viewership shortly after release.
His video projects often involve a full technical crew of choreographers, directors and producers to manage logistics and production, and have included physically demanding shoots. One notable shoot required extensive makeup and costuming work, including dancing barefoot in heavy attire, to recreate and spoof a popular film song. Beyond parody, Salil has also used his platform to address social topics. He produced a short YouTube series titled "Asli Mard" in collaboration with other creators.
As a recording artist, Salil released the song "Tere Jaane Se" on 23 November 2020. The video’s production included work from his partner Shaina Bakshi, who was part of the production team, and the release surpassed one million views.
