Early life and backgroundSaloni Gaur was born on 12 December 1999 in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. She grew up in Bulandshahr and completed her schooling at Renaissance School there. For higher education she attended Janki Devi Memorial College at Delhi University, where she studied political science and economics and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree between 2017 and 2020.
She comes from a family in which her father worked in business and her mother was a homemaker. Saloni has an older brother, Shubham Gaur, who is also active as a comedian and actor.
Career
Saloni began performing in cultural programs while still at school and carried that interest into college, where she won awards for her stage performances. She started creating short character-based videos on social platforms in 2017, first posting on Snapchat and Instagram with the character Pinky Dogra and later other personas such as Kumkum and Asha Behenji.
Her YouTube channel, Salonayyy, went live in 2019 and brought her wider recognition. She became particularly well known for the character Nazma Aapi, a satirical persona through which she tackled contemporary issues and public debates. By October 2023 the channel had grown to more than 5 million subscribers and accumulated over 3 billion views.
Saloni made her web-series debut in 2020 with Uncommon Sense With Saloni on SonyLIV, a show built around her Nazma Aapi monologues that addressed topics including women’s safety, unemployment and fake news. In 2022 she appeared in two additional web series: Campus Diaries on MX Player, in which she played a character named Priyanka, and Bhai Behen vs the World on Amazon Mini TV.
