Sameer/Samir Sharma (Actor) Biography

Sameer (also spelled Samir) Sharma was an Indian television actor and model from Delhi who worked across Hindi TV serials, commercials and small roles in a

Early life and background

Sameer Sharma was born on 3 May 1976 in Delhi and spent his early years there. He attended Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, and went on to graduate in Economics from Sri Venkateswara College in New Delhi. After finishing his studies he moved around for work — first to Bangalore where he was employed at an advertising agency and then briefly with an IT firm before joining Radio City in Bangalore.

Career

Sharma relocated to Mumbai in 2004 to pursue acting. His television break came that year with a role in a long-running family drama produced by Balaji Telefilms. Over the next decade and a half he appeared in a number of Hindi television serials, including roles in Dil Kya Chahta Hai (2005), Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (2006), Left Right Left (2006), Four (2007), Jyoti (2009), Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki (2010) and Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke (2019).

Alongside television, he worked as a model and appeared in several television commercials. Sharma also took small parts in Bollywood films, with screen credits that include Hasee To Phasee (2014), Tamasha (2015) and Ittefaq (2017).

Health and challenges

In 2017 Sharma experienced a serious health setback: he suffered from typhoid and jaundice and was admitted to a private hospital in Bangalore. The illness kept him away from work for several months, and he later recalled that recovery required an extended period of rest and rehabilitation. After recuperation he spent additional time in Bangalore before returning to his acting projects.

Personal life

Sharma’s hometown remained Delhi. He married Aachla Sharma; the marriage ended in divorce in 2014. He had a sister, Niveddita Joshee. Sharma enjoyed reading, photography, cooking, writing poetry and driving. He was known to be fond of dogs and kept several as pets.

Public profile

On screen, Sharma was commonly credited as both Sameer and Samir Sharma and was sometimes referred to by the nickname Sam. He was approximately 180 cm tall (about 5 feet 11 inches), with black hair and black eyes. His professional background included modeling assignments and commercial work in addition to his television and film roles. Public comments from fellow actors and colleagues appeared after his death, reflecting his friendships within the television community.

Death

Sameer Sharma died on 5 August 2020 at age 44. He was found at his rented apartment in Malad West, Mumbai. Local authorities registered the case as an accidental death and reported no evidence at the scene suggesting foul play. Reports indicated the possibility that he had been deceased for some time before being discovered. His passing prompted responses from peers and actors in the industry.

Latest updates

Sharma’s last known television appearance was in the 2019 serial Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke. In the months before his death he had been active on social media; his final Facebook status was posted on 27 July 2020. Earlier in 2020 he had moved into a rented apartment in Mumbai where he was later found.
