Sandeep Reddy Vanga was born on 25 December 1981 in Warangal, Telangana. He grew up in a middle‑class household and spent his early school years in Warangal before completing higher secondary education in Hyderabad. His parents are named Prabhakar Reddy and Sujatha, and he has a brother, Pranay Reddy Vanga.

Vanga initially pursued a degree in physiotherapy and holds a bachelor’s qualification in that field. During his studies he realised his interests lay with film rather than a medical career. He later undertook formal film training in Australia, where he completed a course in filmmaking.

Career

Vanga began working in the Telugu film industry with short apprenticeships and assistant roles. Early on he spent time as an apprentice on a Telugu production in 2005 and later worked as an assistant director on the action film Kedi (2010). He also served as an associate director on Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju.

His breakthrough came with his directorial debut Arjun Reddy (2017), a Telugu film he wrote and directed. Arjun Reddy was made on a modest budget and performed strongly at the box office, establishing Vanga’s reputation for uncompromising storytelling. He followed that success by remaking the film in Hindi as Kabir Singh (2019), which became a major commercial success. Both films brought him national attention and marked him as a prominent young filmmaker working across Telugu and Hindi cinema.

Vanga continued to write and direct, taking on multiple creative roles. He appeared in a cameo role in the biographical Telugu film Mahanati (2018). In 2023 he wrote, directed and edited the Bollywood film Animal, a high‑profile project featuring leading actors from Hindi cinema.
