Early life and background

Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan was born on 8 September 1975 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. He grew up in Gwalior and developed an early interest in storytelling, fueled by a habit of reading comic books. Sport played a role in his youth as well: cricket was a favorite pastime during school and he later became a kickboxing champion while in college. He has described himself as self-taught in filmmaking, having learned by closely observing films in theatres rather than through formal film school training.

Chauhan made his feature directorial debut with the Hindi film Lahore in 2010, a project on which he also contributed to story and dialogues.
