Sanjeev Jeeva (Gangster) Biography
Sanjeev Maheshwari, known as Sanjeev Jeeva or Jeeva, was an Indian criminal figure from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. Born in 1975, he rose from work as a薬
Early life and backgroundSanjeev Maheshwari, widely known by the moniker Sanjeev Jeeva or simply Jeeva, was born in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh in 1975. Before his turn toward organized crime, he worked as a compounder at a dispensary in Muzaffarnagar during the 1990s. He was the son of Om Prakash Maheshwari and Kuntai Maheshwari and was married to Payal Maheshwari; the couple had three sons and a daughter.
Career
Jeeva’s criminal record spans decades and includes allegations ranging from kidnapping and extortion to murder. Early in his criminal trajectory he is reported to have abducted the owner of the dispensary where he had worked, an incident that marked the start of a pattern of violent and predatory acts. Authorities registered more than two dozen cases against him across districts including Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Ghazipur, Farrukhabad and Haridwar, and he faced multiple invocations of the Gangster Act of 1986. Under provisions of that law, properties linked to him were confiscated, with reported seizures exceeding several crores in value.
High-profile cases and associations
Several high-profile cases defined Jeeva’s public profile. He was convicted and given a life sentence by a CBI court for the 1997 assassination of BJP MLA Brahm Dutt Dwivedi; that conviction was later upheld by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court. He was also implicated in the 2005 killing of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and others; however, a Delhi court acquitted him and other accused in that matter in 2019 due to inconsistent eyewitness testimony.
Law enforcement records and further convictions show links between Jeeva and other noted gang figures. He was reported to have associated with Munna Bajrangi and with members of the Ansari group, including Mukhtar Ansari. In 2017 Jeeva and three others were sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder of businessman Amit Dixit (also known as Goldie). Authorities say he continued to exert influence over gang activities while incarcerated, and his organization was described as comprising several dozen members.
Notable incidents and seizures
In 2022 Jeeva was arrested for possession of an AK-47 and a large cache of ammunition. Government action also targeted land holdings tied to him and his family; several acres were seized, auctioned or otherwise taken into custody by authorities, and legal processes listed land bought in the names of his wife and sons.
Public profile
Jeeva’s wife, Payal Maheshwari, at times entered the public and political arena. She ran as a Rashtriya Lok Dal candidate in the 2017 assembly elections but did not win. In 2021 she sought judicial protection on behalf of her husband. The rivalry between Jeeva and other organized crime figures, including a violent feud with a rival known as Sushil Mooch, was part of a larger landscape of gang conflicts in western Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Uttarakhand.
Death
Sanjeev Jeeva was shot dead on 7 June 2023 inside the SC/ST court complex in Lucknow during a hearing. The attack injured two police constables and two children; one attacker was reported to have been detained and was under interrogation. At the time of the shooting, Jeeva still had several pending criminal cases awaiting trial.
Latest updates
At the time of his death, Jeeva had been serving sentences in connection with earlier convictions while facing ongoing legal proceedings in other matters. Government seizures of land associated with him and his family continued to appear in public reporting, and investigations into the court shooting were underway.
