Early life and background

Saru Maini was born on 27 April 1988 in Bangalore, Karnataka, where she grew up. From a young age she showed a strong interest in music, often singing for family and guests and taking part in school and college extracurricular activities related to music. Her family is involved in manufacturing electric cars. Although her parents originally hoped she might pursue a career as an IAS officer, Maini followed her passion for music.

Career

Maini made her recorded debut in 2005 with the album Ishq Hua. That same period also saw her enter Bollywood as a playback singer: in 2006 she sang "Bhangara Paale" for the film Anthony Kaun Hai?.

She continued releasing pop albums, including Sutta Mix in 2007, which brought attention through the track "Dil De Diya Tha." A follow-up album titled Shake It, Shake It arrived in 2008, and she has since released additional music across the pop space. Her work includes collaborations with notable Indian playback singers such as Sonu Nigam and Shaan.
