He was about 19 when he began training seriously for boxing, having previously had only a passing awareness of the sport.

Career

Satish transitioned from local and state competitions to the national stage within a few years. He made his national-level debut at around age 21 and earned a silver medal at the Senior National Boxing Championships in 2011. The following year he won gold at the Senior National Championships, defeating Praveen Kumar in the final.

Internationally, Satish has represented India across multiple major events in the super-heavyweight division (+91 kg). In 2013 he won bronze at the Korotkov Memorial Tournament in Russia and competed at the AIBA World Championships in Almaty, where an injury led to his disqualification after the pre-quarterfinal bout. He won bronze at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon and took silver at the 2015 Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok. Satish added another national gold in 2015 and earned a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Also in 2018 he captured gold at the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem in the Czech Republic. His Olympic campaign at Rio 2016 had been cut short when he was ruled out because of an injury.

Throughout his boxing career Satish has competed as an orthodox fighter. His listed coach is Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu and he has been affiliated with the Sports Services Club of the Army (SSCB). He has been part of the Indian government's Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and is associated with JWS Sports.

Off the ring, Satish remains a serving member of the Indian Army and credits the service with giving him direction and opportunity in sport. He is a fitness enthusiast who trains regularly and enjoys listening to music in his free time. In recognition of his achievements in boxing, the Government of India honoured him with the Arjuna Award in 2018.
