A key turning point in his career came when coach Kim Tan Her paired him with Chirag Shetty. The partnership developed into one of India’s leading men’s doubles combinations. Rankireddy and Chirag were part of India’s badminton contingent at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. The pair contributed to India’s mixed team gold and finished with a silver medal in the men’s doubles event. Their performances led to nomination for BWF’s Most Improved Player of the Year in 2018.
In 2019 the duo broke new ground by winning the Thailand Open men’s doubles title, defeating a top Chinese pair and becoming the first Indian men’s doubles team to win a Super 500 level event. They continued to add World Tour titles to their record, including a Swiss Open victory in 2023 that marked their fifth World Tour title together.
Rankireddy and Chirag qualified for the men’s doubles event at the Tokyo Olympics. In the lead-up to Tokyo, Rankireddy received public recognition from the Andhra Pradesh chief minister, who felicitated him and provided a grant to support Olympic preparations.
