Satyendar Kumar Jain is an Indian politician and a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party who has served multiple terms as a minister in the Delhi government

Early life and background
Satyendar Kumar Jain was born on 3 October 1964 in Village Kirthal, District Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. He grew up in the same village and later attended Ramjas School No. 2 in Delhi. Jain completed his formal education with a degree in architecture from the Indian Institute of Architects, Mumbai.

Before entering full-time politics, Jain worked for the Central Public Works Department. He then set up his own architectural consultancy. Alongside his professional pursuits, he was involved with social welfare organisations, including Drishti, which works with the visually impaired, and SPARSH, which serves people with physical and mental challenges.

Career
Jain joined active politics with the Aam Aadmi Party and was elected to the Delhi Legislative Assembly on 28 December 2013. He was appointed to the Delhi cabinet on 14 February 2015 and handled a wide range of portfolios during his tenure. His responsibilities have included Health & Family Welfare, Industries, Home, Power, Water, Urban Development, Irrigation & Flood Control and, at various times, Transport and Public Works Department functions.

He served as Delhi’s Health Minister on multiple occasions and was re-elected from the Shakur Basti constituency in the 2020 Delhi assembly elections by a margin of 7,592 votes. Jain continued as a cabinet minister until his resignation from the Delhi government on 28 February 2023. In 2022 he was entrusted with overseeing Aam Aadmi Party activity for the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections.

Jain has been publicly identified as a close associate of Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Jain was active in overseeing hospital management in Delhi and tested positive for COVID-19 on 17 June 2020. After his diagnosis he received plasma therapy and subsequently recovered. At one point his departmental responsibilities were temporarily shifted to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia while he remained a cabinet minister.

His family has occasionally appeared in public discussion in relation to government initiatives. His daughter Soumya Jain served in an advisory role with the Delhi Health Mission and was involved with neighbourhood clinic projects; this placement drew public scrutiny and Jain responded by saying she was volunteering with the mission.

Legal matters
Jain has been subject to investigations by federal agencies. In 2017 and again in later years, the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate examined allegations concerning land purchases and financial transactions. In May 2022 the Enforcement Directorate arrested him in connection with a case dating back to 2017. The agencies have alleged the use of companies and transactions connected to land purchases; Jain and his party have described aspects of the matter as politically motivated. Proceedings and public statements from party leaders followed his arrest.

Jain is married to Poonam Jain. The couple have two daughters, Soumya and Shreya. His father was Ram Sharan Jain, who died on 2 May 2021. Jain lists reading and travelling among his personal interests.
