Early life and background
Saumya Tandon was born on 3 November 1984 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, and spent her early years in Ujjain. She attended St. Mary’s Convent School in Ujjain and later completed a Master of Business Administration from the Fore School of Management in New Delhi. Her father, Dr. B. G. Tandon, was an academic and writer who served as Head of the English department at Vikram University and authored multiple books on English literature.

Career
Saumya began her professional life in modelling at a young age, taking part in fashion shows and ramp walks. In 2006 she placed as first runner-up in the Femina Cover Girl contest, and the same year she made her television acting debut in the serial Aisa Des Hai Mera, portraying the character Rusty Deol.

Her entry to films came in 2007 with a supporting role in the Bollywood movie Jab We Met, where she played Roop, the sister of the lead character.
