Sayani Gupta was born on 9 October 1985 in Calcutta, West Bengal. Raised in a family with artistic and service-oriented roots, her father Kamal Gupta worked as a musician and at All India Radio, while her mother Maitreyi Gupta was employed at BSNL in Kolkata. She grew up in Calcutta and later pursued higher education at Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi before attending the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune.

Before turning fully to performance, Gupta worked in marketing and sales at Indian Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. Her early training and interests included singing and dance; she studied multiple dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, modern dance, ballet and Kalaripayattu, an Indian martial art.
