Early life and backgroundSeema Bisla hails from Gudhan village in Rohtak district, Haryana, and is associated with Gurgaon as her hometown. Born in 1993 (sources list either 14 October 1993 or 14 April 1993), she grew up in a family with a wrestling tradition: her father and uncle competed at local and state levels. Her father, Azad Bisla, worked as a farmer, and her mother, Barmi Devi, was a homemaker. Seema is one of four daughters and has three elder sisters.
Career
Seema began training in wrestling at a young age and entered competitive events from 2007. She made her international debut at the 2018 World Wrestling Championships. Over the years she has competed across multiple weight classes as circumstances and rule changes influenced her category. Early in her career she competed at heavier weights before moving down through 67 kg, 58 kg and 55 kg divisions. After international weigh-in rules were changed by United World Wrestling, she began competing in the 50 kg category.
On the junior circuit Seema won several bronze medals at the Asian Junior Championships: in 2008 (49 kg), 2012 and 2013. On the senior and ranking-series circuit she secured gold medals at Ranking Series tournaments in Italy and Turkey in 2019. In 2021 she won a bronze medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships in the 50 kg category.
Seema’s 2021 season culminated in a successful appearance at the World Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament, where she won gold in the 50 kg class and thereby earned a place at the Tokyo Olympic Games. At the Tokyo Olympics she faced Turkey’s Sarra Hamdi in the opening round and lost 1–3.
Her long-term coach is Paramjeet Yadav. Bisla has trained at Paramjeet’s camps in Gurugram and Farrukh Nagar. Earlier in her career she sustained a neck injury that contributed to the decision to compete at lower weight classes.
Public profile
Seema’s physical profile is reported as approximately 168 cm (1.68 m, 5'5") in height and competing at around 50 kg (110 lbs) in the Olympics. Her eye and hair color are listed as black.
Her path to international competition included financial challenges. While training resources and diet were limited in her early years, she later secured employment with Indian Railways in 2017, a move that provided more stability and allowed her coach to recommend dietary supplements and additional nutrition to support her training. As of the available information she had not signed a contract with the Wrestling Federation of India and did not have sponsorships, covering expenses herself.
Personal life
Seema is unmarried. No public details about romantic relationships are listed. Her family supported her wrestling ambitions despite financial constraints; when she qualified for and competed at the Olympics, her family expressed pride in seeing her reach the Games.
