Early life and backgroundShadaab Khan was born on 20 September 1973 in Bombay (now Mumbai), Maharashtra. Raised in a family with deep roots in Hindi cinema and literature, he belongs to an Afghani Pashtun lineage. His father was the late actor Amjad Khan and his mother is Shehla Khan. Artistic pursuits run in the family: his paternal grandfather was actor Jayant (Zakaria Khan) and his maternal grandfather was the writer-director-actor Akhtar ul Iman. Shadaab grew up in Mumbai and attended Maneckji Cooper Education Trust School in Juhu.
Career
Shadaab Khan’s screen journey began as a child artist with an appearance in the 1985 film Pyaari Bhabhi. As an adult, he moved into leading and supporting roles in Hindi films through the 1990s and early 2000s. In 1997 he appeared as Shekhar in Betaabi and played the lead in Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat opposite Rani Mukerji. That same period included a reportedly missed opportunity to debut in Himalay Putra. In 2000 he took roles in Hey Ram and Refugee, and in 2002 he was seen in Bharat Bhagya Vidhata.
After a lengthy break from feature films, Shadaab returned to the screen in 2019 with a role in Romeo Akbar Walter, portraying Nawab Afridi. He later moved into the streaming era with a supporting role in the acclaimed 2020 web series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, in which he played the character Ajay Kedia (A. K.).
Alongside acting, Shadaab has pursued work behind the camera and on the page. He is credited as a director and as a writer, and has authored books. His published works include Shanti Memorial (2013) and the crime novel Murder in Bollywood (2015), the latter drawing inspiration from episodes connected to his father’s life.
