Shadab Khan Biography

Early life and backgroundShadab Khan was born on 4 October 1998 in Mianwali in Northwest Punjab, Pakistan. Raised in a small town in the Mianwali District, he developed his cricket skills playing on rough local pitches near the Indus River. His family moved to Rawalpindi in 2012, where he continued his development at a nearby club. From a young age he showed single-minded dedication to practise, rising early and spending long hours at the ground to hone both his leg-spin and his batting.
Career
Shadab established himself in youth cricket and made a significant impression at the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, finishing that tournament as the leading wicket-taker for Pakistan. His form in junior international cricket and domestic performance led to selection for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League and other franchise teams soon after.
He made his international debut for Pakistan in 2017. His T20I debut came in March 2017 against the West Indies, where he impressed with an economical spell that included key wickets. Shortly afterward he made his ODI and Test debuts on the same West Indies tour in April 2017. While he contributed across formats early on, his performances showed a stronger affinity for the limited-overs game.
Also in 2017, Shadab was part of Pakistan’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. He played a supporting but important role as Pakistan progressed through the tournament and ultimately won the title. In that event he produced a notable moment with a successful review that led to the dismissal of a dangerous opposition batter, and he also claimed other key wickets during the campaign.
Across franchise and domestic cricket, Shadab has represented numerous teams, including Islamabad United, K-Electric, Brisbane Heat, Trinbago Knight Riders, Khulna Tigers, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Dhaka Platoon and others. He has worn jersey number 29 for Pakistan and number 7 in PSL. His bowling is right-arm leg break with a preferred delivery of the googly; he bats right-handed and is known for an attacking lower-order approach, favouring lofted drives.
Shadab’s records and recognitions reflect his impact in white-ball cricket. He has been Pakistan’s youngest T20I captain, has earned multiple Man of the Match awards in T20 internationals, and was named PCB Emerging Player of the Year in 2017. His style on the field combines tactical use of the crease, variation in pace and trajectory, and a tendency to induce catches from batsmen — a majority of his T20I wickets have been dismissals caught.
Public profile
Off the field, Shadab’s personality is described as humorous and light-hearted. He lists sleeping and watching Pakistani television serials among his hobbies. His favourite cricketers include Steven Smith as a batter and Shane Warne and Josh Hazlewood among bowlers. He supports Real Madrid in football and cites Karachi as a favourite city and New Zealand as a preferred travel destination. He enjoys traditional Pakistani dishes such as achaar gosht.
Personal life
Shadab comes from a cricketing family background and has an elder brother who inspired his early interest in the sport. He is married; his marriage took place on 23 January 2023. He is a graduate by education and follows a non-vegetarian diet.
Playing profile and style
As an all-rounder, Shadab combines wrist spin with an attacking lower-order batting role. He frequently uses the crease to change the angle of delivery and varies his pace and flight to tempt batsmen into risky shots. His favourite ball is the googly and he often aims for a lofted drive when batting. Coaches and teammates have remarked on his disciplined training routine and early commitment to practice as factors in his rapid rise.
