Early life and background

Shae Gill was born Anushae Babar Gill on 22 January 1999 in Dahar, Punjab, Pakistan. Raised in a Christian family, she spent her early years in the Dapar area of Punjab and later pursued higher education at Forman Christian College in Lahore, where she graduated with a degree in economics.

From an early age she had an interest in singing. In 2019 a friend created an Instagram account for her under the name Shae Gill, and she began posting videos of herself performing. Those uploads gradually built a following and led to professional opportunities.

Career

Shae Gill’s first major break came when producers from Coke Studio Pakistan noticed her Instagram recordings and invited her to participate in Season 14. Her debut single, “Pasoori,” released on 7 February 2022 as a duet with Ali Sethi, became an immediate success on Coke Studio’s official channel, reaching impressive view counts within hours of release.

“Pasoori” blended multiple cultural and musical influences and was noted by those involved in the project as a modern, genre-blending track that paired a reggaeton-inspired beat with traditional sounds such as the rubab. The song’s music-video set was designed to evoke a communal space for artistic expression.

Following the success of “Pasoori,” Shae collaborated with established Pakistani vocalist Atif Aslam in May 2022 on the Urdu song “Manzil.” She has also been invited to perform at various stage shows and live events, expanding her presence beyond online platforms and studio recordings.
