Raised between London and periods spent in Southern California during her schooling, she completed higher education at Sheffield Hallam University where she earned a BSc in Nutrition, Health & Lifestyle (Human Nutrition). Her family links span the Indian subcontinent: her father, Haji Ismail Raj Muhammad Patel (screen name Raj Patel), was an actor and film director originally from Butwada, Gujarat, India; her mother, Atiya Shah, is an actor, writer and film producer from Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
