Early life and background

Shaina Nana Chudasama was born on 1 December 1972 and raised in Malabar Hill, Mumbai. She is the daughter of Nana Chudasama, a former mayor and sheriff of Mumbai, and Munira Chudasama, who worked in the fashion industry and founded an early Bombay boutique called The Golden Thimble. Shaina completed her schooling at Queen Mary School, Mumbai, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, and later took an associate degree in fashion designing from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York.

Career

Shaina built a parallel career in fashion and politics. In fashion she became known for her special interest in sarees, developing numerous draping techniques that led to her being called the 'Queen of Drapes.' She has been active in Mumbai’s fashion scene since her late teens and worked under her own label, designing outfits and organizing shows. Her work in sarees earned her a Guinness World Record for the fastest saree drape.

Her political journey began in 2004 when she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Early responsibilities in the party included the presidency of its newly created Health and Cultural Cell. Later that year she contested the Maharashtra State Assembly election from the Bandra constituency. She did not win that contest, but continued to take on party roles.

Over the following years Shaina moved through a series of party appointments: she became the BJP spokesperson for Mumbai in 2007 and for Maharashtra in 2008, was appointed to the party’s National Executive Council in 2010, and in 2013 was named a national spokesperson and included on the party’s television debate panel. That same year she became treasurer of the Maharashtra BJP, the first woman in the party to hold that post, and she was re-appointed treasurer in 2015. In 2014 she was named president of the BJP Kaamgaar Morcha’s film workers’ wing, the BJP Chitrapat Union.

Shaina’s public work encompasses political appearances, television debates on behalf of the BJP, and ongoing engagement with the fashion community and Bollywood. She has organized charity events and fundraisers, often involving film personalities, to support causes such as the Cancer Patients’ Aid Association. Shaina is married to businessman Manish Munot; the marriage took place in 1995. They have two children, a son named Ayaan Munot and a daughter named Shanaya Munot.
