Shakun Batra was born on 1 January 1983 in New Delhi, where he grew up and completed his early schooling at St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School. After finishing his undergraduate studies at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi (2001–2004), he pursued a course in cinematography at the Vancouver Film School in Canada. He originally planned to do postgraduate studies in the United States but changed course after a visa denial, choosing to train in film instead.
