Early life and background

Shan Masood Khan was born on 14 October 1989 in Kuwait and grew up in Karachi after his family returned to Pakistan following the Gulf War. Cricket featured early in his life: he began playing at around five years old and progressed through school and age-group cricket while completing his studies in England. He attended Stamford School, where a prolific school season earned national recognition in England, and later studied at Durham and Loughborough universities, completing a degree in management and sports sciences by distance learning.

Masood comes from a family with a sporting background. His father, Mansoor Masood Khan, played hockey at the provincial level and supported Shan’s cricketing ambitions. He has a younger brother, Ali Masood, and a sister, Mishal Hameeda Khan, who died in 2021. The family is based in Karachi and Shan holds Pakistani nationality.

Career

A left-handed top-order batter who also bowls right-arm medium-fast, Masood’s pathway ran through Pakistan’s age-group sides into the domestic game and eventually the international arena.
