Early life and backgroundShashank Shirish Ketkar was born on 15 September 1985 in Pune, Maharashtra. Raised in a middle‑class family, he completed part of his education in Sydney, Australia, where he pursued engineering studies. During his time in Australia he trained as a swimmer, worked at Ian Thorpe’s swimming school in a senior capacity, and took part in cultural and Marathi theatrical activities organized by local groups.
After finishing his studies abroad, Ketkar returned to India and immersed himself in performing arts. He joined the Pune theatre group Sudarshan Rangamanch and made his stage debut in Purnaviram, a production directed by Pramod Kale and written by Sachin Kundalkar.
Career
Ketkar began his professional acting career on television. One of his early TV appearances was in the ETV Marathi series Kalay Tasmay Namah, playing the role of Kailash. He also portrayed a negative character named Aniket Gaydhani in the Star Pravah serial Swapnanchya Palikadale.
His breakthrough came in 2013 when he landed the lead role of Shreerang “Shree” Gokhale in the Zee Marathi serial Honar Sun Me Hya Gharchi. The show brought him widespread recognition and several awards, including Best Actor and a Best Couple award shared with his co‑star. The program itself received multiple awards for its storytelling and characters, and certain dialogues from the show gained notable traction on social media.
Ketkar continued to work across mediums. He made his film debut in the Marathi movie Rang Maza Vegla in 2012 and later appeared in the Marathi film One Way Ticket (2016) as well as 31 Divas (2018). On stage, he performed in Goshta Tashi Gamtichi and was honoured with a Best Supporting Actor award (Commercial Plays) at the 2015 Akhil Bhartiya Natya Parishad Awards for his role in that production. Other theatrical credits include Purnaviram and Kusum Manohar Lele.
He has also appeared in music projects, featuring in the 2015 Marathi music video “Yaara.”
