Shivangi Kolhapure Biography

Shivangi Kolhapure is an Indian actress and singer who began her career as a child performer. Born in Kolhapur in 1964, she has worked in films as both a童d

Early life and background

Shivangi Kolhapure was born on 12 March 1964 in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Raised in a musical family, she is the eldest of three daughters. Her father, Pandit Pandharinath Kolhapure, was a classical singer and her mother, Nirupama Prabhu, worked with Air India. Shivangi’s extended family includes noted figures from the Mangeshkar musical lineage.

She showed artistic promise early: Shivangi made her first professional appearance as a child singer at around nine years old and went on to take small acting assignments while still young.

Career

Shivangi’s screen career began in the 1970s. She sang on the soundtrack of Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973) and later appeared as a child actor in Do Anjaane (1976). Through the decade she contributed both as a vocalist and performer, appearing in films such as Barood (1976) and Saajan Bina Suhagan (1978).

Her singing work included collaborations with leading voices of the time. She recorded with Lata Mangeshkar and sang alongside Kishore Kumar on the 1976 number "Luk Chhip Luk Chhip Jao Na." With her sister Padmini, Shivangi lent vocals to songs in films including Kitab (1977) and Dushman Dost (1981). She also sang the title track for the 1974 film Ovalite Bhauraya.

In 1980 she stepped into an acting role in Kismet, playing the sister of a character played by Mithun Chakraborty. That opportunity arose after her younger sister Padmini, initially cast in the film, had to withdraw; producers felt Shivangi’s appearance and abilities made her a suitable replacement.

Beyond acting and playback singing, Shivangi worked behind the scenes as well, serving in the costume department on the 1984 production Ek Nai Paheli. Later she and her husband took part in the celebrity dance reality television series Nach Baliye in 2007, though she left the show due to back pain.

Public profile

Shivangi is known not only for her film and music contributions but also for her work with healing and music therapy. She has organized workshops that use ragas and melodic elements for healing and has explored practices such as Theta Healing and Sukyo Mahikari, a Japanese light-based healing system.

Her family life has been one element of her public identity. Shivangi married actor Shakti Kapoor on 13 December 1982. The couple has two children: a son, Siddhanth Kapoor, who works in the film industry, and a daughter, Shraddha Kapoor, who is an actress.

Several personal anecdotes from her life have been shared publicly, including recollections about the early days of her marriage and how music helped create bonds between her and her in-laws.

Latest updates

Shivangi’s father, Pandharinath Kolhapure, passed away in August 2015 after suffering a heart attack. Over the years Shivangi has remained involved in musical projects and workshops focused on healing through sound.

She continues to be recognized for a career that spanned child singing roles, film appearances, playback collaborations with major singers of her era, and later pursuits combining music and wellbeing.
