Early life and background

Shraddha Joshi Sharma was born on 5 March 1978 in Almora, then part of Uttar Pradesh and now in Uttarakhand. She grew up in a family of teachers and completed her schooling under the Uttar Pradesh board, finishing her 12th-grade examinations with a high statewide rank. She went on to study at Gurukula Kangri (Deemed to be University) in Haridwar and earned a BAMS degree. After graduation she worked as a physician at a hospital in Uttarakhand.

Career

Following the turning point she experienced while working at the hospital, Shraddha decided to pursue a career in the civil services. She relocated to New Delhi to prepare with Drishti IAS and cleared the provincial civil service (PCS) examinations in 2005, which led to an early posting as deputy collector in Nainital.

Continuing her preparations for the national civil services, she secured an All India Rank of 121 in the 2007 UPSC examinations and was allocated to the Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Indirect Taxes (Customs and GST) stream. Her training included a period at the National Academy of Direct Taxes in Nagpur. Over the years she has served in roles spanning revenue, tourism and social development.

In Maharashtra government service, Shraddha worked in the Ministry of Tourism and later took on leadership responsibilities at the Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal (MAVIM), where she served as Additional Commissioner and engaged closely with women-led self-help groups to support gender-inclusive programming. On 30 September 2022 she was appointed Managing Director of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) in Mumbai.
