Shraddha Walker Biography

Shraddha Vikash Walker was an Indian woman from Vasai, Maharashtra, who worked in customer service and retail sales before her death in May 2022. Her case—

Early life and background

Shraddha Vikash Walker was born in Vasai, Maharashtra, in 1995. She grew up in a family in which she contributed financially; reports indicate that during her teenage years her relationship with her father was strained and she described herself as the primary earner for the household. She attended the VIVA Institute of Technology in Virar and pursued studies toward a Bachelor of Mass Media before leaving the programme.

Career

Shraddha worked in customer-facing roles. In April 2017 she joined an organisation in Mumbai as a customer service representative and later moved into retail, taking a sales manager position at a sports shop in Dahisar from 2018 to 2020. During the COVID-19 pandemic she left that job and prepared to sit for her final mass media exams. After that period she joined an IT firm where she advanced from a customer service role to a team leader.

Personal life

Shraddha was unmarried. She met Aftab Poonawala on the dating app Bumble in 2018 and the two entered into a relationship. The couple lived together at times and relocated to Delhi in March 2022, taking a rented flat in the Chhatarpur-Mehrauli area. Friends later described the relationship as violent and said Shraddha had confided in them about physical abuse and threats. In November 2020 she reported an incident to local police in Vasai, saying she had been assaulted and threatened.

Family

Her father was Vikash Madan Walker and her mother was Suman Madan Walker; both are listed as deceased in the available information. She had a brother named Shreejay Walker. The family address on record was in Vasai West, District Palghar, Maharashtra.

Public profile

Physically, Shraddha was about 161 cm tall (around 5 feet 3 inches) with black hair and black eyes. She was identified as Hindu and belonged to the Koli community. Socially, her name has also appeared in media spellings as Shraddha Walkar.

Death and investigation

Shraddha disappeared in May 2022 and was later reported dead. Her date of death is recorded as 18 May 2022, and the place of death is given as the Chhatarpur Pahadi area of Delhi. Law enforcement action followed after her family reported her missing in October 2022. On 11 November 2022, Aftab Poonawala was arrested and charged under sections of the Indian Penal Code relating to murder and causing disappearance of evidence. Court proceedings in May 2023 resulted in formal framing of charges of murder against him, with a court order describing alleged events and the offences for which he was accused.

The investigation and reporting indicate that Shraddha had previously complained about being threatened and assaulted by her partner, and that concerns about her safety had been raised to police in 2020. After her disappearance, sources reported that her social media accounts and financial instruments were maintained by Aftab.

Latest updates

Legal proceedings advanced with charges framed in May 2023. Media coverage and court records document the arrest and the charges against Aftab Poonawala; further developments would be reflected in ongoing judicial processes.
