Early life and background

Shreyas Anil Talpade was born on 27 January 1976 in Mumbai and grew up there. He completed his schooling at Shree Ram Welfare Society’s High School in Andheri West and went on to graduate from colleges in Mumbai, including Mithibai College and Chauhan Institute of Science & Amruthben Jivanlal College of Commerce and Economics. From childhood he was drawn to performing: he took part in stage plays at school and continued dramatics through college before pursuing theatre professionally.

Career

Talpade’s onscreen career began on television. His earliest credited TV role was in the Hindi series Woh (1998) where he appeared as a young Ashutosh Dhar. He made his film debut in Marathi cinema with Bhet (2001) and entered Hindi films with Aankhen (2002), in which he played Mushtaq Chaiwala.

He came to broader attention with the lead in the 2005 Hindi film Iqbal, a role that brought critical recognition and helped establish him in films. Over the next decade he balanced work across Marathi and Hindi projects, appearing in Marathi films such as Aai Shappath..!, Sanai Choughade, Poshter Boyz and Aapdi Thaapdi, and in Hindi films including Apna Sapna Money Money, Dor and Aggar. He was cast in Om Shanti Om (2007) as Shah Rukh Khan’s friend and achieved wider mainstream popularity for the recurring role of Lakshman in the Golmaal series, including Golmaal Returns, Golmaal 3 and Golmaal Again.

Talpade has worked behind the camera as well as in front of it. He has directed and produced films and television under his production banner Affluence Movies Private Limited.
