Shriya Saran Bhatnagar was born on 11 September 1982 in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. She grew up in a North Indian family and completed her schooling at Delhi Public School branches in Ranipur and Mathura Road, New Delhi. Shriya went on to study at Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature.

Dance and early performing arts shaped her childhood. She began learning Kathak and Rajasthani folk dance from her mother and later undertook formal Kathak training under Shovana Narayan. By her teenage years she was performing with Shovana’s troupe and had joined the open-air theatre group Jhankaar at BHEL, New Delhi.

Career

Shriya’s entry into films came after she appeared in a music video; filmmakers from Ramoji Films cast her in the Telugu feature Ishtam (2001). Her first commercial success arrived with the Telugu film Santosham (2002), which helped establish her in the South Indian film industry and led to offers across multiple languages.

She made her Telugu debut with Ishtam and went on to act in notable Telugu titles including Chennakesava Reddy, Nenunnanu, Balu, Chhatrapati, Don Seenu, Gayatri and N.T.R: Kathanayakudu. Her Hindi film debut was Tujhe Meri Kasam (2003), and she has appeared in Bollywood projects such as Awarapan and Drishyam.

Shriya also became a familiar face in Tamil cinema, featuring in films such as Enakku 20 Unakku 18, Mazhai, Thiruvilaiyaadal Aarambam, Sivaji: The Boss, Chandra and Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan.
