Shubham Kumar was born on 14 February 1997 and raised in Kumhari Village, Kadwa Block, Katihar District in Bihar. He completed his early schooling in his village before moving to neighbouring towns for higher education. He completed class 10 at Vidya Vihar Residential School in Parora, Purnia, and finished classes 11 and 12 at Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Bokaro, Jharkhand. His family includes his father, Devanand Singh, who worked as a branch manager at Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank, and his mother, Punam Devi. He has an elder sister who works at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai.

Shubham earned admission to IIT Bombay after placing 219th in the engineering entrance examination.
