Shweta Sehrawat Biography

Shweta Sehrawat is a young Indian batting allrounder who rose through Delhi’s age-group system to captain and vice-captain roles for India’s Under-19 women

Early life and background

Shweta Sanjay Sehrawat was born on 26 February 2004 in Mahipalpur village, New Delhi, and grew up in Vasant Kunj. The daughter of Sanjay Sehrawat, a real estate agent, and a homemaker mother, she attended Modern School on Barakhamba Road and completed her Class 12 in 2022. She has two siblings: an elder sister, Swati, who worked at a private firm, and a younger brother, Sam Sehrawat, who works as an animator.

Shweta first picked up a bat by following her sister to a local cricket academy. Coaches at a boys’ academy in Vasant Kunj put her up against older boys with a tennis ball when she was very young, and early success there encouraged her family to support her training. She spent time at a cricket academy in Vasant Kunj before making the move into Delhi’s age-group teams.

Career

Sehrawat is a right-handed batter who bowls right-arm offbreak and is described as a batting allrounder. She began to attract attention after being named among the top 30 at Delhi’s senior women’s trials when she was about 12. From there she progressed into Delhi’s Under-16 and Under-19 sides, recording her first Under-16 half-century against Haryana.

Her performances at age-group level led to selection for India’s Under-19 women’s squad. In domestic age-group competitions she produced several notable performances: in the U-19 T20 Challenger Trophy in November 2022 she scored 163 runs in four innings at a high strike rate, and in a subsequent quadrangular series featuring West Indies and Sri Lanka she finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 164 runs at an aggressive strike rate. She captained an Indian U-19 side that swept a five-match domestic T20 series against New Zealand, scoring 180 runs in six matches in that event.

At the inaugural ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup in 2023, Shweta served as vice-captain when Shafali Verma led the side. In a group stage match against South Africa at Benoni on 14 January 2023 she played an unbeaten 92 off 57 balls, striking 20 boundaries and earning player of the match honors.

Her domestic teams include Delhi Women and the Women’s Premier League franchise UP Warriorz. In the February 2023 WPL auction she was bought by UP Warriorz for Rs 40 lakh. She trains under coach Deepti Dhyani and has received training at the Karnail Singh Stadium. Initially a lower-order batter who sometimes batted at number seven, strong age-group performances earned her opportunities to open the innings.

Public profile

Shweta is identified with jersey number 11 and is known for an attacking batting style that her father attributes in part to several years playing alongside boys at her academy. She lists Virat Kohli and Smriti Mandhana among the cricketers she admires. Physically, she is approximately 161 cm tall (about 5'3") with black hair and black eyes.

Latest updates

In early 2023 she took on the U-19 vice-captaincy for India at the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup and produced the unbeaten 92 against South Africa. That same year she entered the WPL as a UP Warriorz signing after the auction in February.

Sehrawat has described balancing academics and cricket as a key hurdle in her development. Her class 12 exam schedule once conflicted with a national camp; after correspondence with officials she attended part of the camp, performed well and secured a place in the National Cricket Academy’s zonal team.

As of the details available, Shweta remains unmarried and continues to represent Delhi domestically while building her profile in franchise and national age-group cricket.
