Early life and background

Silvina Noelia Luna was born on 21 June 1980 in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina. She spent her childhood in Rosario and moved to Buenos Aires at 17 to pursue opportunities in modelling and entertainment. Before her break in show business she worked as a secretary and also performed as a DJ.

Career

Luna made her first major television appearance in 2001 on the second season of Gran Hermano (Big Brother) aired on Telefe. That exposure led to a multifaceted career: she worked as a print model for agencies and was featured on the covers of magazines including Maxim, Interviú, Harper’s Bazaar, Solo Para Hombres and Vogue.

On screen, Luna appeared in a number of Argentine television series across the 2000s, including La peluquería de los Mateos (2003), No Hay 2 Sin 3 (2004), Amor en Custodia (2005), El Capo (2007) and Son de Fierro (2007). She also pursued theatre work, performing in productions such as La noche de las pistolas frías (2002), Diferente (2003), El Champagne las Pone Mimosas (2005) and Vedettísima (2009).

Reality television remained an important part of her public life. She competed on formats including Bailando por un Sueño 2 (2006), El Musical de tus Sueños (2009), Bailando por un Sueño (2017), Divina comida (Chilevisión, 2020) and El Hotel de los Famosos (El Trece, 2022).

In addition to performing and modelling, Luna authored a book titled Simple Y Consciente, published in 2022.

Health and death

In 2011 she underwent cosmetic surgery on her buttocks, and in 2014 doctors diagnosed kidney stones that were attributed by medical reports to complications related to that procedure. By 2023 her medical condition had progressed; doctors advised a kidney transplant and she was hospitalised in Buenos Aires. In April 2023 she shared a video from hospital describing dependence on a life-sustaining machine. Hospital reports in August 2023 indicated she had developed a bacterial infection and had been removed from life-support devices. Silvina Luna died on 31 August 2023 at a hospital in Buenos Aires from kidney-related ailments. She was 43 years old.

Latest updates

In the final years of her life Luna continued to work in media and to publish personal reflections, culminating in her 2022 book. Her last months were marked by serious illness and medical treatment in Buenos Aires.
