Sona Dey Biography

Sona Dey is an Indian dancer, actress, model and social media influencer who rose to wider attention after appearing on India’s Best Dancer Season 7 with—

Early life and background

Sona Dey was born on 20 October 1999 in a Bengali family in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. She grew up in Bilaspur, attended a private school there and later studied at Kolkata University, where she completed her graduation. Her family supported her interest in the performing arts from a young age; she has a younger brother named Raja Dey and her mother is named Madhuri Dey.

Sona discovered dance early and began formal lessons while still young. She auditioned for several dance programs and found recognition in South India through appearances on regional reality shows, including D4 Dance. Those early experiences helped shape her path as a performer and content creator.

Career

Sona’s profile expanded significantly after she and her partner Mukul Jain competed on India’s Best Dancer (2020). She stood out on the show for appearing alongside her boyfriend, a pairing that drew audience interest and raised her visibility. Following television exposure, Sona collaborated frequently with Mukul on short-form videos; their joint content on platforms like TikTok helped them build a substantial online following.

Beyond short videos, Sona is described as working across several public-facing roles: dancer, model, actress and social media influencer. Her on-camera presence and dance training enabled continued opportunities in entertainment and digital content creation. Reports included an approximate monthly income range and an estimated net worth figure; those financial details were presented in the source as estimates.

Public profile

Sona and Mukul’s partnership has been central to her public identity. The two met while auditioning in Visakhapatnam in 2018 and developed a close creative relationship that evolved into a romantic one. Their collaborations and television appearances made them a familiar pair on social media and reality TV; a memorable moment came when Mukul proposed to Sona on national television, a clip that circulated widely.

Sona’s fanbase has grown in part because of her dance work, on-screen chemistry with Mukul and the approachable persona she projects in videos. She lists hobbies such as traveling, singing and dancing, and continued to publish content on platforms including Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

Challenges and response

In September 2022 Sona was wrongly linked to a circulating MMS that many online users and channels shared with her name attached. The attribution was later found to be incorrect. To counter the misidentification and the distress it caused, Sona addressed the matter on her own YouTube channel, demonstrating differences between herself and the person in the viral footage and pointing out contextual details that indicated the video did not feature her. Her response was accompanied by public support from many followers who defended her against the false claim.

Latest updates

Sona continues to work with Mukul on collaborative videos and to engage with her audience through social channels. Her public profile remains tied to dance and digital content creation, and she has maintained visibility through reality show appearances and regular social media activity.
