Early life and background

Sonal Chauhan was born on 16 May 1987 in Uttar Pradesh and grew up in Agra. She attended Delhi Public School in Delhi and later studied at Gargi College, University of Delhi, where she completed a degree with honours in philosophy. Her family includes her father, Raghuraj Singh Chauhan, a retired Uttar Pradesh Police officer, her mother Shivani Chauhan, a brother Vikram Chauhan and a sister, Himani Chauhan, who worked as an associate creative director at Jio Studios.

Career

Chauhan first gained public attention through beauty pageants. In 2005 she won the Femina Miss India World Tourism title and went on to claim the Miss World Tourism crown that same year. She modelled and appeared in print advertising and television commercials for brands such as Lay’s, Pepsi, Face Fresh Fairness Cream, Dish TV and Safi, and regularly walked the ramp at fashion shows.

Her screen break came when she featured in a Himesh Reshammiya music video in 2006.
