Sonali Chakraborty, born Sonalidevi on 20 November 1963 in Kolkata, West Bengal, trained academically in the arts. She completed an M.A. in Dance from Rabindra Bharati University and attended Gokhale Memorial Girls' College during her formative years. Known by the nickname Runu, she stood about 1.70 m tall and had black hair and black eyes.

Career

Chakraborty began her professional life with a foundation in dance before moving into acting. Over several decades she became a familiar face in Bengali cinema and television. Her film credits include an early appearance in Dadar Kirti (1980) and roles in later productions such as Har Jeet (2002) and Bandhan (2004), in which she portrayed a character named Aarti.

On television she appeared in serials and plays across the 2000s, including Choker Bali: A Passion Play (2003) and Satyameba Jayate (2008). In 2021 she was cast in the popular serial Gaatchora, appearing as a member of the Solanki family.
