She spent her formative years in the United States while maintaining ties to her Indian roots; her family includes her father Joginder Singh Rathee, her mother Usha Rathee who works as a yoga instructor, and her brother Ankur Rathee, who is also an actor. Sonia completed her college education in Boston, graduating with a degree in finance and marketing.
