Sudheesh Nair is an Indian actor and filmmaker from Kozhikode, Kerala, who has built a long career in Malayalam cinema since his child acting debut in 1987

Early life and background

Sudheesh Nair was born on 7 December 1972 in Kozhikode, Kerala. The only son of T. Sudhakaran Nair and Suryaprabha Nair, he grew up in a household connected to performance: his father worked as a deputy collector and also pursued acting. Sudheesh attended St. Joseph's Boys' Higher Secondary School in Kozhikode and continued higher studies at St. Joseph's College, Devagiri.

He developed an interest in performing early and won recognition for a solo stage performance at the state level while still young. Encouraged by his father, Sudheesh went for a film audition as a teenager and secured a role that would introduce him to Malayalam cinema.

Career

Sudheesh made his film debut as the teenage Ajayakumar in Anantaram (1987). After that early break he continued to build a steady presence in Malayalam film and television. He appeared on television in Parudeesayilekkulla Patha on Doordarshan in 1994 and worked as a dubbing artist on the 1993 project O'Faby.

Across the 1990s and 2000s he took on a variety of supporting and character roles. Notable early film appearances include Avittam Thirunaal Aarogya Sriman (1995), Ee Puzhayum Kadannu (1996), Oral Mathram (1997) and Sreekrishnapurathe Nakshathrathilakkam (1998). Later credits include Oru Black and White Kudumbam (2009), Nallavan (2010), Sahasram (2011) and Bavuttiyude Namathil (2012).

In the 2010s and 2020s Sudheesh continued to be active in prominent projects. He appeared in Ennu Ninte Moideen (2015) and Theevandi (2018). More recent film roles include Bhoomiyile Manohara Swakaryam (2020), Minnal Murali (2021), Kanakam Kaamini Kalaham (2021) as Sivakumar, Gold (2022) as Gold Musthafa, Heaven (2022) as Philip, Ennivar (2023), Nadikalil Sundari Yamuna (2023) as Bhaskaran, and 2018 (2023) as Varghese.

His work in Ennivar and Bhoomiyile Manohara Swakaryam was acknowledged at the state and critics' level. He received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Character Actor for Bhoomiyile Manohara Swakaryam and Ennivar (2021) and the Kerala Film Critics Award for Second Best Actor for Ennivar (2020).

Television and other work

On television Sudheesh has appeared as an actor and later took roles on reality programming; in 2022 he was a judge on Comedy Stars Season 2 on Asianet. Early television work includes the 1994 Doordarshan production Parudeesayilekkulla Patha. He has also worked behind the microphone as a dubbing artist.

Sudheesh married Dhanya Nair, a teacher, on 30 March 2005. The couple have two sons, Rudraksh Nair and Madhav Nair. Rudraksh has appeared as a child artist in the 2016 film Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho. Sudheesh's father, T. Sudhakaran Nair, who had a parallel career as an actor, died in 2016.
