Early life and background
Suhasini Haidar was born on 20 February 1973 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Raised with ties to both Chennai and Delhi, she completed undergraduate studies at Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi and later earned a Master of Broadcast Journalism from Boston University’s College of Communication. She is Indian by nationality and is identified with the Pisces zodiac sign.

Career
Haidar began her journalism career in 1994 with an internship at CNN’s United Nations bureau in New York. She moved into the CNN New Delhi bureau as a producer in April 1995 and spent the next decade contributing to CNN International, reporting across South Asia and beyond. Her reporting portfolio from that period includes coverage from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Bangladesh.

Across her time at CNN, Haidar was part of teams honored for major international coverage. She worked on coverage of the 2004 Indian tsunami that contributed to CNN receiving the Columbia-Dupont Broadcast Journalism Award in 2005. After serving as a correspondent for CNN International’s New Delhi bureau, she transitioned to Indian television.

From 2005 until 2014 Haidar served as Foreign Affairs editor and a prime-time anchor at CNN-IBN. Her field reporting has placed her in high-risk and historic situations: she sustained injuries in a bombing while reporting in Kashmir in 2000, spent time working on CNN.com’s coverage of the September 11 attacks in 2001, was aboard the Indian Navy warship INS Mumbai during the 2006 evacuation from Lebanon, and in March 2011 was the only Indian journalist in areas under Gaddafi’s control during the Libyan conflict.

Haidar is currently the Diplomatic Editor at The Hindu. In that role she focuses on foreign policy and hosts an online program titled WorldView with Suhasini Haidar. Her career has included interviews with several prominent global leaders, among them Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar and former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.
