Early life and backgroundSujoy Ghosh was born on 21 May 1966 in Tollygunge, Kolkata, West Bengal. He spent part of his childhood reading Bengali popular fiction and later moved to London at the age of 13, where he completed his schooling and higher education. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computing from Manchester University (1986–89) and an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School (1990–92).
Career
Ghosh began his professional life outside cinema, including a notable tenure at Reuters where he ultimately served as Head of the South Asia division in the 1990s. He transitioned into filmmaking and made his directorial debut with the feature film Jhankaar Beats in 2003. Over the next two decades he established himself as a writer-director with a taste for mystery and offbeat subjects.
His breakout came with the 2012 mystery thriller Kahaani, starring Vidya Balan. The film performed strongly with critics and audiences and brought Ghosh several honours, including national recognition for screenplay and multiple awards for direction and story.
