Sunil Kumar Malik was born on 12 May 1997 in the village of Bhainswal Kalan in Sonipat, Haryana. He grew up in Sonipat and developed a passion for kabaddi early; he began playing the sport at age 11. He completed a B.A. at Guru Nanak Khalsa College in Yamuna Nagar.
