Sunita Kejriwal was born on 11 February 1966 in New Delhi. She completed a master’s degree in zoology and later graduated from the National Academy of Direct Taxes in Nagpur as part of her training for the Indian Revenue Service. Her hometown and longtime residence have been in New Delhi.

Sunita joined the Indian Revenue Service in the 1993 batch. Over more than two decades in the service she rose to the rank of Commissioner of Income Tax, with her last posting at the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal in New Delhi.
