Surya Sharma is an Indian actor from Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, known for his work on television, films and web series. He gained recognition for his role

Early life and background

Surya Sharma was born on 27 February 1990 in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. Raised in the same town that he later referenced while working, he grew up in a family connected to the film world: his father, Ashwani Kumar Sharma, is a film director, and his mother is Asha Kumar Sharma. He has a younger brother, Tarankit Sharma, who works as an animator.

From a young age Surya showed an interest in performance. A school memory he has recounted is winning first prize for a skit on Children’s Day. He also attended a boarding school for a period, where he experienced a suspension when he was younger.

Career

Surya Sharma’s on-screen journey began with small television appearances and advertisements. Early in his career he took a two-minute TV role and has described the long string of auditions that preceded more visible parts. He worked in commercials for brands such as Pepperfry and Fortune, which preceded his transition to episodic television, web series and film.

On television he appeared in Kala Teeka (2016) as Aryan. He moved into OTT work with a part in Hostages (2019) where he was credited as Prince. His film work includes a small role in the Hollywood production The Rush Chairman (2017) as Fraternity Guy and a role in the Bollywood film Veere Di Wedding (2018) as Arjun.

Surya’s highest-profile work to date came with the web series Undekhi (2020–2022), in which he played the character Rinku. That performance earned him recognition within the web-series space and an award for Best Actor in a Negative Role for his work on Undekhi.

Public profile

Surya is described as a fitness enthusiast who shares workouts on social media. He prefers functional fitness and running, and has said he values flexibility and the ability to perform his own stunts over pursuing exaggerated muscle definition. His food preferences are rooted in traditional tastes: he has described himself as a non-vegetarian who enjoys dal, roti, milk and ghee, reflecting his Pahadi background rather than embracing vegan trends.

He has spoken about early struggles in the industry, including repeated rejections and the large number of auditions he attended before landing parts. Surya credits his parents—particularly his father—for encouraging him to pursue a creative career and has said their support was pivotal to his path into acting. He has also acknowledged learning from established performers; he has mentioned gaining insight about the craft from actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui during his early career.

Outside work he is an avid dog lover and adopted a dog named Tiger while shooting Undekhi. He is also known to enjoy traveling, cooking and painting, and has a tattoo on his left hand. He owns vehicles that have been described as a Tata Safari and a jeep.

Latest updates

Surya’s involvement in Undekhi included location work in his hometown of Hamirpur, which he has described as meaningful because it allowed his parents to visit the set and see him work. As of the most recent available information he remains unmarried and continues to work across television, web and film projects.
