Sushil Mantri was born on 7 February 1963 in Pune, Maharashtra. Raised in a business-oriented family, he began working alongside his father in the textile trade soon after finishing his 10th standard in 1978. He completed a B.Com at Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce under the University of Pune and later attended Harvard Business School. His personal interests include reading and travelling.

Career

Mantri moved into real estate in the late 1980s, transitioning from buying and selling land to project construction in 1987. He established Mantri Developers in 1999 after relocating to Bangalore at age 36, launching the business with financial support in the form of a loan. Under his leadership the company expanded into residential projects, IT parks, shopping complexes, commercial buildings and educational institutions.

A major milestone for the company came in 2006 when Mantri Developers attracted private equity from Morgan Stanley, which invested for a minority stake and supported the firm's first chief financial officer hire.
