Early life and background
Swami Sarvapriyananda was born Biswarup Palit on 10 March 1971 in Kolkata, West Bengal. He was raised in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, in a family devoted to the Ramakrishna Order, and developed an early appetite for religious and philosophical reading. As a child he immersed himself in the writings associated with Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda, and those interests shaped his later choices.

After completing his schooling he studied at the Xavier Institute of Management (XIMB) in Bhubaneswar and earned an MBA. Although he once said his earliest ambitions included becoming a pilot, his search for spiritual understanding became his central aim.

Career
Following his postgraduate studies, he entered monastic life by joining the Ramakrishna Order in 1994. He took full monastic vows and was given the name Swami Sarvapriyananda after receiving ordination in 2004 from Swami Ranganathananda of the Ramakrishna Math.

Over more than two decades in the Order he served in a variety of educational and formation roles. He was chosen as the inaugural registrar of the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Center in Howrah and worked as an acharya at the Belur Math monks’ training facility. He also held leadership posts in the Order’s schools and colleges, including vice principal of the Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith in Deoghar and principal of the Ramakrishna Mission Shikshanamandira in Belur Math.

In 2015 he served as assistant minister of the Vedanta Society of Southern California. On January 6, 2017, he assumed leadership of the Vedanta Society of New York. He lived in an Indian monastery from 1994 until 2016 and moved to the United States in 2017 to continue his work with Vedanta societies there.
