Early life and background

Swini Khara was born on 12 July 1998 in Mumbai, where she was also raised. She attended Ryan International School for her schooling and went on to study commerce at Narsee Monjee College of Commerce & Economics from 2014 to 2016. Swini then moved into legal studies, completing a BA LLB at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad between 2016 and 2021. During her studies she took part in exchange and short-term programs abroad, including a semester exchange at Samford University in Homewood, Alabama in 2019 and a summer course on intellectual property law at the World Intellectual Property Organization in 2020.

Career

Swini began working as a child actress in 2005. Her first Bollywood appearance was in Parineeta (2005), and she made an appearance in the Hollywood film After the Wedding (2006). On television she is known for playing Chaitali Thakkar on the StarPlus series Baa Bahoo Aur Baby, a role that ran from 2005 to 2010 and earned her industry recognition as a child performer.

Across film and TV she acted in a number of projects through the 2000s and 2010s, including Cheeni Kum (2007), Paathshaala (2010), the horror film Kaalo – The Desert Witch (2010), and the animated feature Delhi Safari (2012) where she provided a voice role. Her last credited film role was as young Jayanti in M. S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016). She also appeared in television shows such as Dill Mill Gayye, CID, and Zindagi Khatti Meethi, and took part in the dance reality show Zara Nachke Dikha in 2008.

While acting as a child she featured in television commercials for brands like ICICI, Cadbury Dairy Milk, and Lakme. From June 2020 to February 2021 she served as head of operations at DEVISE – Developing Inclusive Education, and she later worked as a research assistant at the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy. In March 2020 she became editor in chief for the Indian Journal of Intellectual Property Law. In August 2021 she joined Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas in Mumbai as a legal associate.
