Dr. C. Sylendra Babu was born on 5 June 1962 in Kuzhithurai in Kanniyakumari district, Tamil Nadu. Sylendra Babu joined the Indian Police Service in the 1987 batch and belongs to the Tamil Nadu cadre. His early posting after completing training at the National Police Academy, Hyderabad, was as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Gobichettipalayam in 1989. Over the years he advanced through standard IPS ranks: Superintendent of Police, Deputy Inspector-General, Inspector-General, Additional Director-General of Police, and ultimately Director-General of Police.
