Early life and background

Tahlia May McGrath was born on 10 November 1995 in Adelaide, South Australia. Raised in Adelaide, she attended Flinders University and grew up in a family that includes her parents, Barry and Linda McGrath, and siblings Josh and Kayla. Outside cricket she enjoys surfing and travelling.

Career

McGrath is a right‑hand batter and right‑arm medium pacer who began representing South Australia domestically in 2011–12. She has been part of the Adelaide Strikers since 2015–16 and has appeared for overseas franchises including Lancashire Thunder (2019), Southern Brave (from 2022) and UP Warriorz (from 2023). She wears jersey number 32 when playing for Australia.

Her international career started in limited overs cricket: she made her One Day International debut on 27 November 2016 against South Africa. McGrath made her Test debut on 9 November 2017 against England and later debuted in Twenty20 Internationals on 7 October 2021 versus India.

McGrath has progressed steadily through Cricket Australia pathways. In April 2019 she received a National Performance Squad contract and was awarded a central contract for the 2020–21 season. She has also captained the Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League in 2021 and 2022.

Notable performances came in the 2021–22 season: during a WODI series against India she produced a three‑wicket haul in the second match and made a substantial 74 from 77 balls in partnership with Beth Mooney. In the 2021–22 Women’s Ashes she became the first Australian all‑rounder in a WT20I to both take three wickets and score more than 75 runs in a match, producing figures of 3–26 and an innings of 91 off 49. She finished that Ashes T20 series as Player of the Series with 225 runs and 11 wickets.

International tournament honours followed. McGrath was named to Australia’s squad for the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand and was part of the Australian side that won gold at the cricket tournament in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. She was also bought by Southern Brave for The Hundred in 2022 and signed by UP Warriorz for the Women’s Premier League in 2023.

At the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Gqeberha, McGrath contributed with both bat and ball, scoring 57 and taking six wickets across the tournament as Australia advanced and ultimately won the title on 27 February 2023.

Public profile

Nicknamed T‑Mac, McGrath is known for her all‑round abilities and leadership at domestic level. She has been coached by Luke Williams and has been recognized individually at national award events: in 2023 she won Women’s T20I Player of the Year at the Australia Cricket Awards Night. In 2022 she received recognition related to Australia’s Commonwealth Games success, including being named ICC Player of the Month in the aftermath of the Birmingham tournament.

McGrath’s physical profile listed in public records places her at approximately 175 cm (5'9") with brown hair and dark eyes. She is unmarried and publicly linked to boyfriend Cameron Nesbitt.

Latest updates

In 2023 McGrath continued her franchise commitments with UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League. That year she also played a role in Australia’s successful Women’s T20 World Cup campaign, contributing with runs and wickets as the team secured the trophy.

She remains an active member of Australia’s international and domestic squads and continues to feature across formats for her country and franchise teams.
