Tanishka (NEET 2022 Topper) Biography

Tanishka, a student from Narnaul, Haryana, secured All India Rank 1 in NEET-UG 2022 with a score of 715/720. She is the first NEET topper from the OBC-NCL‑

Early life and background

Tanishka was born on 14 September 2005 and grew up in Narnaul in Mahendragarh district, Haryana. She comes from a family of educators: both her parents work as teachers at a government school. She has two younger siblings — a sister and a brother — who in 2022 were studying in class 9 and class 3 respectively.

Her early schooling included a change of school when she was in class 2. She describes herself as having been an average student through class 8; it was after that point that she intensified her academic efforts and began chasing higher achievement.

Career

As a student aiming for medicine, Tanishka moved to Kota, Rajasthan, in February 2021 to prepare for competitive entrance exams. She enrolled at Allen Career Institute as a classroom student and spent the following two years studying there. In 2022 she sat the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for undergraduate medical admissions (NEET‑UG) and secured All India Rank 1.

In NEET‑UG 2022 she scored 715 out of 720. Her sectional percentiles were exceptionally high: Physics 99.9673008, Chemistry 99.9965997, Biology (Botany & Zoology) 99.9885525, and an overall percentile of 99.9997733. She also performed well in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, achieving a 99.50 percentile. In Class 10 she obtained 96.4 percent, and in Class 12 she scored 98.6 percent in her board exams.

The NEET‑UG exam was held on 17 July 2022 with more than 18.7 lakh students registered, and results were declared on 7 September 2022. Four candidates obtained the same raw score of 715; the National Testing Agency applied its tie‑breaking policy and awarded the top rank to Tanishka, making her the first NEET topper from the OBC‑NCL category. The other three students with identical marks were placed in subsequent ranks according to the agency’s tie‑break rules.

Tanishka has said she chose medicine because it allows a person to establish themselves by helping others. After the NEET result she expressed the intention to pursue MBBS at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, with plans to specialise later in cardiology, neurology or oncology.

Public profile

Tanishka’s family background and academic rise received attention because both parents are schoolteachers and because her interest in medicine was personal: her mother has said that the death of Tanishka’s maternal grandmother from cancer inspired Tanishka’s desire to become a doctor.

During interviews she has spoken about Kota’s academic environment and about Allen Career Institute as influential in her preparation. Her performance attracted wider notice not only for the top rank but also because she became the first NEET‑UG topper belonging to the OBC‑NCL category.

Latest updates

As of the NEET‑UG 2022 result announcements, Tanishka planned to take admission into MBBS at AIIMS, Delhi and to pursue further specialisation in fields such as cardiology, neurology or oncology. Information about subsequent admissions, coursework, or medical training beyond those plans was not provided in the excerpt.
