Early life and background

Tara Sutaria was born on 19 November 1995 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Raised in the city she calls home, she completed her schooling at Bai Avabai Framji Petit Girls' High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Mass Media from St. Andrew’s College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Mumbai. She follows the Zoroastrian faith and is a Scorpio by sun sign.

From a very young age Tara trained in music and dance. She began singing at seven and went on to perform in operas, stage competitions and solo concerts both in India and overseas. She sang at the National Centre for the Performing Arts for more than a decade and has worked with international and regional performers in live shows. Her dance background includes training in classical ballet, modern and Latin dance through established schools and qualifications from institutions such as the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.

Career

Tara’s screen career began in television. She joined Disney Channel India as a video jockey and moved into acting with the TV series The Suite Life of Karan & Kabir in 2012, playing the character Vinita Mishra (Vinnie). On the same channel she also hosted the show Big Bada Boom in 2010.

Alongside television work, Tara maintained a presence on stage and in musical theatre, including a lead part in Raell Padamsee’s production of the musical Grease. She has sung for film soundtracks and lent her voice to projects such as Taare Zameen Par (2007) and Guzaarish (2010).
