Early life and backgroundAnil Teja Nidamanuru was born on 22 August 1994 in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. He spent his earliest years living with his grandparents in Vijayawada and developed an interest in cricket there. When his mother took a job as a dialysis technician with the district health board in Auckland, New Zealand, the family moved when he was six. He grew up in a middle-class Hindu household and was raised largely by his mother after his parents separated when he was nine.
Education and early cricket
Nidamanuru completed his schooling at Mount Albert Grammar School in Auckland and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in sports management and marketing from Unitec Institute of Technology, Auckland. He began formal cricket training at Cornwall Cricket Club at age eight and represented Cornwall in Auckland club competitions across multiple seasons. As a teenager he also played in New Zealand’s domestic system, appearing in both T20 and List A matches for Auckland.
Domestic and club career
During his playing career Nidamanuru has represented a wide range of domestic and club sides across three countries. In New Zealand he played for Cornwall, Auckland A, Otago A and made List A and T20 appearances for Auckland. He spent stints in England with Lanchester Cricket Club and Stony Stratford, and represented Northern Universities Student Club Community Cricketers Elite. After moving to the Netherlands in 2019 he played for SV Kampong Cricket Club and became player-cum-coach at Punjab Cricket Club Rotterdam. International career and playing style
Nidamanuru is a right-handed batter and a right-arm off-break bowler who has been used most often in lower-order batting positions. He made his One Day International debut for the Netherlands on 31 May 2022 against the West Indies and his T20 international debut on 11 July 2022 against Papua New Guinea. In his debut ODI he scored an unbeaten fifty, and he went on to register his first ODI century on 21 March 2023 with 110 against Zimbabwe. A notable performance came on 26 June 2023 in the ICC World Cup Qualifier group stage when he scored 111 against the West Indies, a contribution that helped the Netherlands force a tie and eventually win in the super over.
