Tejashwi Yadav Biography
Tejashwi Prasad Yadav is an Indian politician from Bihar, best known as the youngest child of Lalu Prasad Yadav and a senior leader of the Rashtriya Janata
Early life and backgroundTejashwi Prasad Yadav was born on 9 November 1989 in the village of Phulwaria in Gopalganj district, Bihar. He is the youngest of nine children of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. Four months after his birth his father assumed office as Chief Minister of Bihar.
Tejashwi spent part of his schooling in Delhi, attending Delhi Public School, Hemant Vihar and Delhi Public School, RK Puram. His formal education is recorded as having completed up to the eighth grade. As a young man he pursued cricket seriously: he captained his school side, played in Delhi under-age teams and was part of Delhi’s under-19 setup. He was also in the Delhi Daredevils squad between 2009 and 2012 and appeared in seven domestic matches during his playing career.
Career
After recognising the limits of his cricketing prospects, Tejashwi shifted his focus to politics and campaigned for his father in 2010. He contested his first election in 2015 and won the Raghopur Assembly seat on a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) ticket at age 26.
Following that victory, Tejashwi was appointed Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar in the Mahagathbandhan government led by Nitish Kumar. He held the post from 2015 to 2017 and managed the public works, forestry and environment portfolios in the state cabinet. After the coalition’s collapse in 2017, he became the leader of the opposition in Bihar, at that time one of the youngest to hold that role.
In the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, RJD emerged as the single-largest party and Tejashwi retained the Raghopur seat by a wide margin. He again took oath as Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar on 10 August 2022, marking a second term in the post.
Public profile
Tejashwi is widely identified with the RJD and is often described as his party’s political heir. He carries a public profile that mixes his family background, early sporting life and rapid rise through state politics. Physical details published in public records list his height at approximately 5 feet 6 inches (167 cm), with black hair and black eyes.
He has used direct channels to reach constituents: in 2016 he introduced a WhatsApp number to gather complaints about local road conditions. That initiative drew unexpected attention and generated a large volume of messages, many of them personal in nature.
Controversies and legal matters
Public records and open-data sites list multiple legal matters associated with Tejashwi Yadav. As of the information available, MyNeta records 11 criminal cases pending. He has been linked in media reporting to several high-profile investigations and cases that involved other family members as well, including a CBI case related to hotel maintenance contracts and a separate “land-for-jobs” investigation that has attracted agency scrutiny and led to court proceedings. Reports also record a defamation matter that was dismissed by the Supreme Court after he submitted an apology affidavit.
Personal life
Tejashwi married Rachel Godinho, who is also referred to as Rajeshwari Yadav, on 9 December 2021 in New Delhi. The couple has a daughter, Katyayani, born on 27 March 2023.
