Tillu Tajpuria Biography

Tillu Tajpuria, born Sunil Mann Tajpuria and commonly known as Tillu, was a figure from Delhi involved in long-running gang rivalries. Educated to the BA‑l

Early life and background

Sunil Mann Tajpuria, popularly known by the nickname Tillu, was born on 11 July in Tajpur Kalan, Delhi. He grew up in that locality and attended Maharaja Agarsain Public School in Narela. He later studied at Swami Shraddhanand College, University of Delhi, and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree. His community background is recorded as Jat and his faith in Lord Shiva is noted in accounts of his personal life.

Career

Tillu became involved in serious criminal activity and rose to prominence as a gangster in Delhi. During his college years he developed a close friendship with Jitender Gogi, another student who later became a rival. The relationship frayed during student politics when the two supported opposing candidates in a vice‑presidential election, and both subsequently became associated with local criminal networks.

Over time Tillu formed alliances with other figures in the Delhi underworld, including Neeraj Bawana, Naveen Bali, Sunil Rathi and Cheenu. A violent rivalry with Gogi’s group escalated after the killing of a close associate, and both sides suffered multiple murders of members in the ensuing conflict. Law-enforcement action followed: in 2016 Tillu and an associate were arrested in a murder case connected to operations in Rohtak, and the police had earlier announced a reward for information leading to his capture.

While incarcerated in Tihar Jail, Tillu remained linked to gang activity. In 2021 he was implicated in planning an attack that resulted in the killing of Jitender Gogi at a Rohini court hearing; that incident was reportedly coordinated while Tillu was in custody. The feud continued in subsequent years, with further deadly clashes between the factions.

Death

On 2 May 2023, Tillu Tajpuria was attacked inside Tihar Jail. He was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in New Delhi and was declared dead. Official accounts describe the assault as carried out by rival inmates who breached the ward separation by breaking iron grills. His death is recorded as occurring at Tihar Jail on 2 May 2023.

Public profile

Tillu was a well‑known figure in media coverage of Delhi’s gang conflicts. Descriptions of his appearance note a height of approximately 173 cm (about 5 feet 8 inches), with black eyes and black hair. Reports also mention habitual smoking of hookah on occasions when he was photographed or seen publicly.

Latest updates

The most recent significant development in Tillu’s story is his death on 2 May 2023 following the jail attack. Coverage following the incident included statements from Delhi Police about the manner of the assault and identified attackers by aliases. Beyond that event, available records summarize his longstanding rivalry with the Gogi gang and the series of criminal cases and violent encounters that defined much of his public life.
