Tina Ambani was born Tina Munim on 11 February 1957 in Mumbai, India. Raised in a Gujarati-speaking family, she attended Pupil’s Own School in Khar and went on to study at Jai Hind College in Mumbai. Her education also included time in the United States, where she studied interior design and computer science in Los Angeles.

She grew up in Mumbai’s Bhuleshwar neighbourhood. Tina has at least one known sibling, a sister named Bhavna Munim.

Career

Tina began her public career in the mid-1970s, when she took part in international pageants. In 1975 she finished as second runner-up at the Miss Teenage International contest in Aruba and picked up additional awards at the same event, including Miss Bikini and Miss Photogenic.

Her film career launched with Des Pardes (1978), a project directed by Dev Anand. She subsequently worked with Anand on Lootmar and Man Pasand and went on to appear opposite several leading actors during the 1980s. Her filmography includes multiple collaborations with Rajesh Khanna and roles alongside members of the Kapoor family; she is noted as the only actress to have been cast as a love interest of all three sons of Raj Kapoor—Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Rajeev Kapoor. She also appeared opposite Sanjay Dutt in his debut film, Rocky. Tina has described her performance in Adhikar (1986) as the best of her film career. Her final film appearance came in Jigarwala (1991), after which she stepped away from acting.
